The Essential Component Of Iguana Care

When people think about buying an iguana, different questions come to mind. More often than not, one of these questions is: Where do I keep it? People then try to find out the components of an iguana cage. If you are trying to find the best iguana cage for your pet, here’s a guide for you.

The first thing you want to know about is how big the iguana cage has to be. Some people have the misconception that the cage will limit the size of the iguana. This is not true. An iguana under ideal conditions will grow up to 6 feet long. This means that you will need to have a huge iguana cage in order to accommodate your pet. In fact, some people provide a whole room instead of an iguana cage for their pets!

Of course, if you are not yet ready to provide this space for your iguana, you could choose to delay until your iguana grows to its full size. However, the iguana cage that you provide should be large enough to contain the activities of your iguana. It should not cramp the animal in any way. If you choose to wait until your iguana has grown to full size, you should at least prepare and make plans for the time when you are going to need a bigger iguana cage.

An iguana is cold blooded. This means that they need to regulate their body temperatures by making use of the environment. What are the implications of this? This means that you need to provide different temperatures in the iguana cage. This is so that the iguana can move from different spots to properly regulate its body temperature. You should also try to include a source of heat without light which will be used during the night time.

Iguanas require high levels of humidity to live comfortably. They are easily dehydrated because of the fact that iguanas aren’t really inclined to drink much. This is because the native habitats of iguanas have high humidity and this keeps them from being dehydrated. Dehydration can lead to kidney failure. This means that not having enough humidity can shorten the life of your iguana. Another reason to keep your iguana cage humid is the fact that humidity helps loosen skin. This means that an iguana will have an easier time shedding skin if it is kept in a humid environment. If you wan to keep your iguana healthy, you should provide an iguana cage that has a humidity of 65 to 75 percent of the air.

Iguanas need a source of UVA and UVB light. Of course, the best source that you can make use of is the sun. This does not mean that you should place your iguana cage in a sunlit area. The glass or plastic of iguana cages filter out the UV light much needed by iguanas for production of vitamin D3. This vitamin helps in calcium consumption. This means that you need to let your iguana bask in direct sunlight as much as possible. This helps in developing strong bones and preventing Metabolic Bone disease which is a very common cause of death among iguanas in captivity.

Other than the sun, your iguana cage should also include an artificial source of UVA and UVB light. This is in order to make up for days when the sunlight is not enough for your iguana.

Short Lesson in Understanding

Let’s begin with a Sufi story:

Once upon a time there was a king who enjoyed the company of his trusted friend, a Sufi. One day the king said: “Look, I love and trust you as much as I love and trust my soul. Please,” he said, looking into the man’s eyes, “I would like to give you a present, so ask whatever you wish, even to the half of my kingdom.”

The Sufi replied, “My king, I do not wish for anything.”

“Please, ask whatever you want and it’ll be granted.”

The Sufi said softly, “I thank you, but I honestly do not wish for more than I already have.”

Both men stood their ground until finally the wise man turned and said: “There is a question I would like to ask?”

“But of course,” replied the king.

“Imagine that you have become separated from your men and that you are lost in the desert. There is not one living soul around. High in the sky, the sun is hot on your head. There are no bushes under which to find shelter.Your tongue feels as dry and dusty as the hair on your camel’s tail. Then, an apparition appears in front of you and proffers a tumbler of cool water towards you. You reach for it but before releasing the tumbler, the apparition proposes a deal. A tumbler of cool water for half of your kingdom. My King, would you agree to the deal?”

“Of course, I would!” exclaimed the King.

“So,” continued the wise man, “why would I need something that is valued as much as a tumbler of water?”

So, what is the message of this story?

The message is that according to how much, at any given moment, we value any one aspect of anything over another, we attach an arbitrary emotional value to this aspect while failing to accept the whole.

Look at it this way: if we were in dire straits in a desert, lost and left for dead, most of us would, indeed, be willing to make a deal – any deal – with anyone holding a symbolic cool glass of water to us.

Interestingly, if lost in an arctic blizzard and about to die from hypothermia, what we would most greedily accept from a rescuer would not be a tumbler of cool water but a tumbler of brandy though, clearly, whilst in the dry desert the tumbler of brandy would fail to quench our thirst and might hasten our departure from this earth.

However, we are talking about the same tumbler of cool water – unchanged in its properties – whether it is offered in the context of the desert or the context of a frozen landscape.

Dependant on our need – be it real or imagined – the worth we attach to that tumbler of water is totally arbitrary and entirely of our choosing.

Equally, when we donate to charity clothes that we no longer want, the persons accepting these clothes will attach a value to them where, for us, there was no longer any.

Why, these men and women might even wear this shirt, that skirt, that tie, proudly on Shabbath, at the next Bar Mitzvah they attend, to their next job interview or to their next birthday party.

It can be said that one person’s trash is another one’s treasure.

When we value one item over another, be it an object or a human being, we create separation – in doing so, we create disagreement and conflict because things are inseparable in their essence.

Any attempt to attach greater value to one item over another causes an inner friction that expresses itself through an outer conflict, i.e. in violent behavior, be it against others or against the self. This conflict can also express itself in the form of illness or result in an *accident*.

Every single conflict recorded in history has sprung from a value attached to worldly material goods as well as to ideas, notions, emotions and desires. In doing so, we separate them from the whole.

The action/reaction of inner conflict/outer conflict always repeats itself simply because there can never be a firm agreement between people about the worth of any specific thing or that of any specific individual they value, and the prize they are willing to pay for them.

Some will spend a fortune on a car. Others will spend a fortune on a painting, on a diamond, on a stamp collection, on a rug or even on another human being. Some prefer not to pay anything for these objects that they, too, value. They prefer to *steal* them while others would not give a thousand shekels to possess any such thing because, for whatever reason, they do not value such objects.

For example, when mere objects, locations and people gain religious significance, they also gain an added value – that of holiness.

Attachment to symbolic holiness leads to conflicts between individuals, wars of religions and war between nations.

The real essence of life – the physicality, unity of everything – is inseparable from the whole. No single aspect of it can be altered in any way. The value we attach to anything that has ever been created – from objects to selected individuals, dead or alive – is only as arbitrary as the value attached to the tumbler of water in the opening fable.

Any conflict is the proof that we, humans, are attempting to separate what is whole and inseparable into parts, while it is the natural state of all – conceived as whole – to realign itself back into a preordained wholeness.

The stronger the attachment to any element separated from its whole – be it in the name of a god, idealism, patriotism, authoritarianism or liberty – the stronger the eventual counter-reaction will be.

It needs to be understood that all-out battles on any level are always born out of a single-minded personal inner conflict.

All events, all objects are naturally neutral – they just are.

They do not carry any intrinsic values. They are neither good nor bad. They merely exist but we, ego-personas, arbitrarily decide what is to be valued or rejected, what is good and what is bad, according to societal trends, our collective emotional insecurities and the use we make of objects, thoughts and doctrines – personal and public ones alike.

Every act intended to ‘push’, to manipulate, in a direction predetermined by the self, always causes a blow-out at the other end before it settles back into its original wholeness.

Love, on the other hand, is a pure and beautiful emotion – but only as long as we accept our loved ones as they are without trying to mold them to suit our desires and our insecurities.

When we peacefully accept our circumstances such as they are, the spontaneous flow of cosmic love energy remains constant, for it replenishes itself spontaneously. The more we share love with others, the more this cosmic energy widens and spreads.

Needless to say, we are not talking here about the simplistic, feel good Hippie flower-power and the New Age propensity for hugging and verbally stating acceptance and love. Neither are we talking about convincing ourselves that we are “doing” love through the simplistic repetition of mantras.

When we demand that love, such a frail and beautiful emotion, should be expressed in any particular way in order to satisfy our ego – selfish and insecure by nature – the counter reaction from the loved one is an annoyance that over time often turns into downright hatred, which often leads to the cessation of the spontaneous flow of love, if not to physical separation.

It is this negative charge that is transmuted into a karmic ‘blow to the head’ of the perpetrator via yet another inner/outer conflict.

What is a loss, an ‘accident’, bad luck, an act of violence or an illness, if not the materialization of the negative charge?

Take for example the case of an extreme fundamentalist who turned to epicurianism. That sort of erratic imbalanced behavior would create such an energetic kink that the flow of cosmic energy would be severely constricted. This would set the stage for yet another inner/outer conflict.

The first reality is that we are souls – souls disguised in our incarnated bodies.

The second reality is that all souls are love and, as such, our true purpose in this lifetime is to love one another unconditionally.

A third reality is that the source of all conflict and enmity is always rooted in our starvation for love and in our inability to satiate it.

We, human beings, are a combination of a body and a soul. When only the body needs are sated, the lonely starvation of our soul deepens accordingly and this is where, as a civilization, we err in thinking that satisfying the body, the persona, with more money at the bank, a promotion, more frequent and better sex, more entertainment, a more stimulating life, more exotic food – more and more of what is within material and within our reach – would solve the problem.

Instead of eventually feeling satisfied with what we have, we indulge a constant craving for more – as there is always more ‘out there’ that the media are trying to sell us. The more we indulge our base needs, the more our soul’s loneliness and starvation deepen. In time, the persona becomes miserable, emotionally unhealthy and ultimately physically sick.

The main problem of our civilization is that we have never

understood the connecting lines that link our actions in the material world to our spiritual deficit and to our emotional stress and physical ailments.

When the world came to be, all of creation – minerals, animals, plants, human beings, stars, suns, etc. – was born from primeval matter. The ‘phenomena’ world in which we live is, therefore, a complete world in which nothing can be altered.

Wood cannot become iron. Fish cannot become flora. Each creation has been given to humankind in its complete form. Therefore, there is no possibility of ever changing anything in our outer physical world.

Air pollution, greenhouse gases, pollution of the rivers and the seas, the hole in the ozone layer, the melting of the polar caps and toxic waste, just as the side effects of ‘enhanced’ food are the result of scientific ‘advancement’. Scientists take complete matter and alter its properties to invent an improved version of the original pattern.

The world could be seen as a huge puzzle in which all pieces are interlocking and each fulfills a function without which the puzzle cannot be whole.

So, although there is a general consensus that the contribution of an individual positioned at the bottom rung of society is minimal, this is a grave mistake.

Without such persons in our midst, the nature of the puzzle would be altered. Their absence, if removed from the equation, would cause a severe imbalance that would affect the whole of society.

It has to be understood that everyone alive here and now is a valid and integral part of this society.

Again, we are souls in disguise and the ‘phenomenal’ world in which we live has set us up with all the opportunities we need to reveal our true selves to ourselves by unveiling the mask of the persona – which is the only way to experience inseparability and our personal merging with the infinite wholeness.

Let’s take the case of a rabbit. A rabbit cannot speak. The best she can do is growl a little because of an inborn inability to shape sounds into words. If we tried to teach a rabbit to speak, even after many years of perseverance, the rabbit’s throat would still not allow her to do more than growl. The rabbit is a complete creature that is finite.

Let’s now return to human beings. When we tell ourselves that we have learned ‘something new’, reality is that we have not truly learnt anything new at all. What we have succeeded in doing is remembering some of what we already knew.

As human beings, we are not complete, fixed creatures like the rabbit. We are able to ‘learn’ by internalizing something that, a minute ago, was totally unknown to us. When we “remember”, we are accessing prior knowledge. The ability to learn and to understand means that it is inborn within us and that it is unlimited.

Soul speaks to us through symbols. Understanding these symbols is a must. When we see the world through our eyes, we see pictures formed by a myriad of symbols which our brain analyzes through words.

As long as we stay within the picture’s framework, we experience living in peaceful harmony with our selves and with each other.

However, the moment we interpret what we see with words, always attributing a higher or a lesser value to one aspect or another, we create separation. Separation fosters friction and friction leads to another conflict.

Soul is Love, Truth and Faith. It is therefore in her nature to desire a merging with infinite and eternal wholeness. The ego-persona, a mere tool, is a mechanical system intended to serve the soul by being a channel between her and the body, so that our soul can look at the world through eyes that see union and unconditional Love.

Each one of us is always dealt the cards we need in order to succeed in this difficult mission but all our difficulties in life spring from our refusal to accept our soul as our master and from our resistance to amend what needs to be amended. They are compounded by our doggedness to flow in a direction that is opposite to that of Life’s flow – the unilateral direction of separation.

When a soul is reincarnated as a newborn within a specific family, it is the signal for the parents that the time has come for them to overcome all petty personal conflicts to clear the channel between their persona and their inner self – not to be hypnotized by their own persona’s needs and fears – not react mechanically to every one of life’s prickly moments.

The arrival of a newborn soul in their lives is the signal that the time has come for these adults to learn about their true selves by observing their own reactions while refraining from interfering.

The arrival of a newborn is the signal to surrender to what-is, to accept holistically and to give unconditionally. The more the parents will be able to give, particularly when things become messy and difficult, the more their acceptance will grow, the more their energy will be renewed and the more they will evolve and rise up the ladder of spirituality.

The world is the stage on which actors perform our play – the play we have written – the play we are directing – the play in which we are the main as well as the supporting actors. We reflect our lack of awareness by projecting the roles we play onto others and blaming them for it.

When we give someone a major role in our play, we complain that s/he is taking over our life; and when we give a minor role to someone, we complain that s/he has no interest in our life or that s/he has little time for us. Yet, all the time the problem is ours.

By separating, accepting/rejecting people according to our perception of the role they play, we are so absorbed by our selves, so controlled by the past, that we block them. We exclude them from sharing our personal experiences. We, then, complain that no one loves us; that no one cares about us, while in reality we are the ones who have separated ourselves from the whole.

Every time we struggle with any of our past experiences, we are not ‘here’ – we are not present in ‘this’ moment. However, it is only in the moment that there exists the possibility to participate fully, harmoniously, in our own play, because that moment contains every other moment that ever was and all those that will ever be – it is eternity.

The spiritual Path is not a way of seclusion or disconnection from the outward world. It is the Path of harmony within daily life. Within this context, harmony means being passive. It means not ‘Doing,’ but doing only what needs to be done at any given moment and nothing more. It means neither falling back on the past nor leaning heavily on the anticipation of a rose-tinted future that will never come.

Everything that distracts our mind from the present moment reels us back again to the past or to an imagined future. Either way, we are not living at all the moment. In actual fact, Life is reduced to the present moment alone – it is not linked to the moment that preceded it, and it is not linked to the moment that is yet to come.

To be in the moment is an almost unbearable, a Sisyphean task, but it is a task that yields its own rewards. Flowing means being an inseparable part of the cosmic energy that surrounds us. This energy is that of unconditional, infinite LOVE.

This energy ebbs and flows with each harmonious act of giving and accepting. In this manner, things are accomplished as if on their own volition. They happen at the right time and in the right way. They fall into place within the best possible circumstances that can possibly exist in any given moment.

The sea that leads its waves to the shore again and again without stopping even for a moment, symbolizes the ego within our daily activities. The incessant roar, the spray, the sparkle that glints on the water – all of them create the illusion of an infinite, hectic movement, while in reality all this activity only serves to hide the real essence at the bottom of the sea where life exists away from the seeing eye.

For us, as for the sea, all our activities are visible on the surface.

Daily activities done mechanically blind our inner sight, and lead to the delusion that the real world is the material one we observe through the eyes of our persona.

Our insatiable hunger for love remains intact and no achievement, however great – no victory, however hard-fought – no object, regardless of its value – will ever fill the formidable void created within us.

Dependence on the many crutches we lean on, such as our work, our money, our social status, our fame, our achievements, as well as alcohol, entertainment, sex, shopping etc., cannot lift the person beyond the boundaries of the limited ego.

Our hunger for a union with our infinite, limitless Self only make us more reliant on these crutches, thus foregoing all hope of ever being liberated and standing freely.

The more we attempt to control moments and events, the more they enslave us – the more they hang around our neck like an iron weight.

It is for a good reason that in the Talmud it is written “win a slave, win a master.”

Our insatiable hunger causes us to mistake its source and we place the stress on the physical side: the expansion of personal property distorts reality and, instead of letting our soul guide us, the reins are held by the persona who can never be satisfied because, as a limited tool, for her own survival she is dependent on energies exterior to her self. The persona sucks in this energy from all around and positions herself by using willpower or desire – the persona’s most powerful tools.

The more materialistic the persona, the greater need she will have to absorb more of this energy in order to stay alive until, finally, desires out of control will lead her to self-destruct.

Gross matter tends to behave according to the Law of Attraction of Earth, and it weighs down whoever is inclined toward gross lower physical desires while forgetting their divine origin, as in an ancient story about the Sons of God who descended into Earth. It is said that they fell in love with the daughters of Men. They became soabsorbed with lustful desires and lower energies that they had become unable to use their wings.

The moral of this story is that we, pure souls, are imprisoned within a body that exists only to satiate its base desires. The ‘desired body’ – our willpower – is no different than ‘a loose canon’ and, systematically, it leads us to fail our soul as we fail others.

Our soul is an inseparable part of God. As such, our soul is attached to all other souls in an eternal tie. All souls belong to a higher dimension – one in which energies are much more delicate and mightier than that of earth-bound personas – thus souls are stronger and mightier than anything imaginable.

The term ‘higher dimension’ does not mean that worlds exist one above the other, the higher one stacked on top of the lower one. In reality, worlds exist one within the other like Russian nesting dolls, and the highest worlds are the most inner ones. They are the ones who give the essence, the content and the energy to the lower, grosser worlds. This works exactly like an engine that sets in motion the entire vehicle, although it is hidden from the observer’s eyes. The higher is one’s personal spiritual elevation, the stronger is one’s energetic power and, therefore, the greater is one’s ability to control the lower levels of one’s persona.

Faith means security. To have faith in our soul means we rely on energies that break through all levels and, consequently, events manifest themselves with the speed of light. The person needs only to ask – and the request is granted immediately. When all the blockages are removed, all is delivered to us on time, and there is no need to exert pressure on any aspect of our lives. All flows around us exactly like the breeze.

Wind is the symbol of life of Earth. Without it there would be no life on our planet. When the wind blows gently, it inspires softness, tenderness and evokes the feeling of a loving, comforting caress.

Even the leaf won’t fall off its tree. But when the wind blows hard, it uproots trees and destroys homes. It brings along dark clouds that release heavy rains that flood the ground, as if all of Nature’s forces were united into one entity aiming to cleanse earth from some of the filth that has stuck to her from time immemorial.

Walking the spiritual Path is difficult because the persona needs to change her mechanical behavior by letting go and by surrendering to Soul.

From childhood onwards, modern society teaches us that being competitive, a high achiever, one who controls her own destiny by intervening in all its aspects, is good practice. However, these behaviors lead to violence against the self and violence against others – in one form or another.

There is no competition on The Path. If you won’t give your brother a helping hand, in the fullness of time he will drag you backwards. The spiritual Path is a path of sacrifice, of infinite giving, of being always available to others. It is the path of the open heart.

Our constant desire to ‘achieve’ and ‘win’ over others is merely symptomatic of our infinite hunger for love. This modern-day form of beggary will never be the key to opening our heart – not even after we have achieved all that is achievable. Not even if all the medals that can be won have been won.

All that is alive on Earth – plants, animals and human beings – is reacting to the voice of the heart. Soul will never be content with a love that is conditional.

In our culture, the wealthy are as much beggars as the poor. Their compulsion to hoard objects, property and money has its roots in the same inner hunger for love.

It can be said that every single masterpiece is but an imitation of Life and Nature. The fact that, today, works of art are praised mostly according to their financial value, says it all.

Thousands of charitable organizations collect donations to deliver money that is not theirs. Their line of business brings them accolades, appreciation and love. Be that as it may, confusion between the aim and the means is the reason why such organizations are failing in their mission to lift the poor out of starvation and institutionalized dependence.

These organizations only create a disablement on both sides – a mutual dependence on emotional crutches. Money is a neutral matter like every other matter. In itself, money is neither good nor bad, but the energy around money, which is used only as a commodity instead of being a channel for love between welfare organizations and their beneficiaries, gets soiled.

Because the persona is a limited system, she needs a constant renewal of energy from outside of herself and she sucks from others, mostly by controlling them. Soul, on the other hand, is an inseparable part of the cosmic energy and as such she replenishes herself – the more she gives, the fuller she becomes. Such is the magic of the soul and such is the secret of the soul.

Life is an incessant flow within the infinite, and Nature is its reflection. Within this infinite flow, human beings have created a cocoon within which they have established governments, culture, religions, malls and also all kinds of rules. From generation to generation, they have taught their children to find happiness within the artificial construct of this society – a pursuit equal to that of swimming against the tide. It’s enough to see what happens in America when a cyclone sweeps through, removing every blockage on its way – be it a building, a tree,a car or a train.

The accusing finger always pointed at Nature’s forces unleashed reflects our inability to understand that creating artificial blocks where the flow will not be restrained will naturally lead to various explosive behaviors.

Therefore people use unnecessary power and energy just to survive inside this artificial cocoon. That barely repressed power expresses itself through inward and outward violence. It also expresses itself in the compulsion to build greater buildings and giant malls, as if building bigger blockages could ever stop the flow of life.

Even the greatest dam of the world will not withstand the pressure of flowing water that floods whatever stands in its way. Our mighty armies, equipped with weapons of mass destruction, attest to our ignorance and to our blindness.

The most repressive police system in the world only fosters more criminals and more gratuitous violence. Cause and effect are interconnected and inseparable. The mere existence of massive armies creates political tensions and international conflicts because the inner drive imprinted within them eventually bursts into outward expression.

Huge buildings cause imbalance by distorting the flow of energy around and through them. The higher up and away from vegetation and the ground’s energy we live, the thinner the oxygen we breathe.

The Law of Attraction is not strong enough to prevent neurological and physical symptoms such as loss of balance, dizziness, headaches and other symptoms of unease.

Mother Nature has provided us with all that we need to live healthily: air, water and food; material for clothing and shelter as well as life-sustaining energy. The closer we can get back to her – the better our communities will fare.

When, for example, we look at a tree, what do we see? What do we feel? Are we grateful to the tree for granting us shade under the hot sun? For the paper we use daily? For the furniture that furnishes our houses? For the house in which we live? For the beauty that it emits all around, and without which the world would be a scorched desert?

When we consider all of Nature’s treasures – including the fauna and flora within it – purely from a selfish utilitarianist perspective, our lack of insight shrinks the world around us to the dimension of our needs. What ensues are needs ever more restrictive, designed to serve the persona’s immediate desires which, if not satiated, will again erupt in one form of violence or another.

Attempting to see the world through the eyes of the limited persona reduces and trivializes all that we do, because the whole is again separated into tiny parts that are unable to absorb and reflect back the whole picture.

When soul sends a message such as “Know unconditional love,’ the persona understands it as ‘Have sex now.’ This blind ignorance is what leads men to a prostitute from whom they can ‘buy love.’ Both the prostitute and her clients are struck by an illness that has, as its source, the same insatiable hunger for love.

Once again, the money exchanged is the commodity that connects them. But when the heart is blocked, money is valueless and it loses its true purpose as a channel that connects people.

Symbolically, money represents the high values of love, compassion, acceptance and giving. As money passes from hand to hand, it provides us with the golden opportunity to open our heart and to deliver these high values through its channel.

The best investment of money is done by keeping it in a state of constant flow. Otherwise, it become moldy and rancid like food stored too long. The more we give from an open heart, the more the value of money grows – both spiritually and physically.

Let’s say that a person asks for help and, after having obtained that help, s/he offers to pay in lieu of a thankyou. Should the person accept the money, the exchange of “give and get” will cancel out the original intention.

The exchange that began as a gesture of goodwill is then reduced to a mere business transaction and no real change can occur for anyone. The circle of love cannot spread outwards.

However, if the helper says, “No, I don’t want money. If you want to pay me back in any way, be nice to someone else for free, without any strings attached, without even expecting a thankyou. And maybe this person will also do a favor to someone else for free, etc.” Then and only then will the world become a better place.

Only then will energy begin to flow from one person to another – without being blocked at every turn. When someone barters their kindness for money, their action becomes afflicted with the disease of covetousness which defeats the original purpose.

The spiritual powers imprinted within us are intended to lift us back to the rank of the angels we were at the time of our creation. The beauty we experience around us reflects the inner beauty of our infinite soul. When the heart is open, the eyes see union, love, faith and truth; for under the various colors of our skin, our ideas and emotions, we are all identical. The blood that flows in our veins is red; our lungs breathe oxygen and our body consumes food in which we have all shared from production to consumption.

Spiritual enlightenment means that we understand that – while within the artificial environment people have created and from which they fight each other for a piece of bread, of land, a sum of money, a better position, a new mode of controlling each other this way or that way – in the real dimension things remained unchanged, exactly like the tumbler of water. They are as harmonious and perfect as ever.

By day, a teacher of Senior English and French in Brisbane, Australia, and, by night, first a writer of novels and now a writer of spiritual material, I am on a quest of sorts ? I am searching for a connection to my soul, right here, right now. Admittedly, I have an ulterior motive ? quite a strong one at that: I am trying to edit some karma out of my energy field by altering its properties. This, from me, who a couple of years ago thought about my soul as often as the molecular composition of my body, which was never.

Bates techniques to improve eyesight

Good sight is thus the result of a relaxed state of mind and body, whereby the individual person feels a direct contact with the surrounding world through the five senses. Poor sight, on the other hand, is the result of tension, where the person is, to a greater or lesser extent, isolated from the outside world through being locked in a pattern of psycho-physical tensions, such as worry, anxiety, rigidity, day-dreaming, boredom, confusion, impatience, etc.

The practical benefits of the Bates Method are imparted by means of a pupil-teacher relationship wherein the pupil is shown, first, relaxation of the eyes, then the body, and then the body and eyes, whilst seeing. As the relaxation progresses, the mind, the eyes and the body begin to focus together more harmoniously, allowing the sight to improve naturally, by itself, as does the health of the eyes, whilst already good sight can be preserved.

Dr. Bates was a graduate of Cornell University and of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He worked at various times at Belleview, Harlem Hospitals, Manhatten Eye and Ear Hospital and New York Eye Infirmary. He also taught ophthalmology at the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital.

It was as a result of this work, examining thousands of pairs of eyes a year and observing many cases where the sight either recovered spontaneously or changed it’s form in inexplicable ways, that a burning desire was aroused to elucidate why the sight changed in these cases. It was from these researches that Dr. Bates discovered that the sight can be be intentionally improved by natural methods, without the use of glasses. In the succeeding years, he discovered and developed the principles and practices to realise this discovery and they became the basic foundation of the Bates Method as it is practised today throughout the world.

Palming: “The simple idea of resting the eyes by closing them is basic to the Bates method. Dr. Bates coined for it the term ‘palming’.

The eyes are gently closed and covered with the palms in such a way that all light is excluded and no pressure is applied to the eyeballs.

The heels of the hands rest lightly on the cheekbones and the fingers on the forehead.

Palming is usually done while seated.

The elbows should be supported, either on a table in front of you or on a thick cushion or two in your lap.

While palming you should feel entirely comfortable, safe and warm. Choose if you can a quiet time and a place where you are not likely to be disturbed.

Become conscious of and do your best to relax any undue tension in the muscles of your face, neck, shoulders, and the rest of your body.

Listen to the radio if you wish, or just allow the mind to wander, keeping it away from anything unpleasant. If stressful thoughts intrude, push them aside to be dealt with later.

Remain with the eyes shut for several minutes. The exact period that suits you best has to be found by trial and error; five minutes is about right, and four should be regarded as a minimum. It can be difficult to judge the passage of time, and some such device as a non-ticking cook’s timer, or one of those electronic watches or pocket calculators which incorporate an alarm, is very useful.

Palming like this should be repeated from three to five times in succession and forms the basis of your daily practice period. Once or twice in the period you might like, rather than merely allowing the mind to wander, to try some visualisation.

Swinging: Long Swinging: “Rotate your body from left to right and back. Eyes, torso and head move together. Turning mostly around your waist. Don’t look at anything as you swing; be aware of movement mainly. Let your eyes go, let your consciousness stay in front of you while you turn. Make sure to keep breathing.”

“There is another type of mobility swinging in the Bates method, sometimes called “long swinging”, which has a rather different purpose [from regular swinging]. It is simple to do, and consists essentially of turning from side to side. Stand with the feet about 30 centimetres (12 inches) apart, the arms hanging loosely, and, lifting the right heel as you do so, turn to the left. When you have reached the limit of comfortable travel, turn to the right, letting the left heel rise and the right one return to the floor. Go on like this until you have performed 20 complete swings. The turning should involve your hips as well as your waist. Keep your arms relaxed so that they rise slightly as you swing.  Do not go too fast; try to make the swings smooth, level, and rhythmical.

Keep your eyes open and allow the image of your surroundings to rush past without trying to focus on anything in particular. Nearby objects will naturally seem to move faster than distant ones, and will probably be no more than a blur. Make no attempt to hold on to or fix any part of the image; notice only that everything seems to be moving in the direction opposite to that of your swing.

Sunning: “The Bates technique for relieving photophobia is called sunning, and consists simply of taking sunshine on the closed lids. In this way the retina is accustomed to progressively brighter light, until the stage is reached where the eye can function efficiently over the entire range of normally encountered light intensities. The warmth of the sun and the therapeutic properties of its rays also have a profound and beneficial effect on the health of the eyes and on the ability to relax them

“Practise giving half a dozen rapid and very light blinks, shut the eyes lightly for the space of two whole breaths, and repeat four times. This little routine, practised regularly, twice or more a day, will, especially if followed by a brief spell of palming, help to establish the correct tone in the muscles of the eyelids and develop better habits of blinking. No more than a few seconds should pass between one blink and the next. As a very rough guide, between two and four blinks in each period of ten seconds is about right.

The Bates Method has proved that by practicing these simple methods, just about anyone can be helped.  It’s as simple as creating your own chart and placing it in your office.  Just by glancing at the chart several times during the day will help keep the eyes relaxed which will alleviate strain on the eyes.  By training your eyes to relax will help improve your vision today and for the rest of your life.

For the first 20 years of my career, I owned an ophthalmology practice.

Sustainable Architecture For A Sustained Future

Sustainable Architecture For A Sustained Future

Sustainable architecture is simply means that environmentally friendly design techniques in the field of architecture, Sustainable Architecture shows systems approach to design and construction in which the various components such as alternative power recourses (passive solar techniques, wind power, geothermal energy etc), proper use of site, proper use of materials, earth air conditioning, vapor-permeable ceilings, and cellulose insulation, health and safety, aesthetic appearance, contextual responsiveness etc, operate wisely to achieve environmental goals

Why Need Of Sustainable Architecture

Different countries have different cultures and way of designing buildings are in relevance with their cultures, in early days constructions were link with nature and most of the time materials, that used for constructions, were selections of the nature, at that time there were not any environmental problem or any material problem owing to those buildings (domestic houses ) were tally with the environment and the material also was renewable however with the time this has been changed and in present situation cultural oriented and environmentally friendly houses, buildings are being disappearing.

In the present day early situation has been drastically changed and terms like cost management, resources management, safety, optimum use of energy, environmental impact etc, are arising and it has create a negative impact on the survival of people and the industry.

Sustainable architecture seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, resources and development space

It is our responsibility

We need to live more lightly on the earth, because the degeneration of our environment is affecting not only our survival, but the survival of other living beings on the planet. We can not ignore the impact we have on the earth’s ecosystems. The way of people are living, the choices of them providing for their needs, will have an enormous influence on the quality of life of every living being. Now is the time to take responsibility for the consequences of our life styles, we are the people who are representing the construction industry, therefore it is our responsibility to show the correct path to people

Areas where it is possible to use Sustainable Architecture

Sustainable architecture is a profound subject and use of this subject in the field is also cover very large area, therefore it is difficult to discuss all the subject matters and there practice in the field, using a report like this. However this is most sought after topic to discuss, therefore it has been selected few major areas where sustainable architecture is necessary to use.

1. Sustainable Architecture with Site , Climate and Size and Shape of the building

1.1. Respect for site

In earlier days when it is being needed to prepare a site for a house or any kind of building it was doing with the help of the labors and they didn’t do a considerable change to the site and they just construct their buildings in respect to the site that means they construct their building according to the site conditions there for the stability, aesthetic and contextual response was great for those buildings, however today this site preparation procedure is doing with heavy machinery and  drilling , blasting also can be taken a place when it is necessary, today what the people doing is they are preparing the site according to their need, this procedure may loose the stability, aesthetic and contextual response of the building

Respect for site means to respect for the nature therefore it is need to concentrate on following factors before constrictions is taking a place

Will any natural spaces or wilderness be developed?
Will buildings be expanded into protected natural areas?
Is an Environmental Impact Assessment needed and has it been prepared?
What steps have been taken to protect natural spaces, habitats or species?
What restorative or rehabilitative measures will be taken?
Will any habitat or species be harmed or eliminated so that it cannot be remedied?
Will any significant cultural site be affected?
What steps have been taken to protect such cultural site(s)?
Have energy and water conservation technologies, waste management measures and energy-efficient principles and building technology guided the design process in a meaningful way?

2. Energy conservation and use of renewable energy resources

Under the sustainable architecture it is being discussed a need of constructing a house which need least possible power specially through (fossil fuels) to heat or cool the interior. When designing energy conserving house the following fact must be considered

The use and cost of energy in buildings on a long-term basis,
The climatic characteristics in terms of solar radiation, temperature, humidity and wind
Thermal comfort of the occupants
Architectural guidelines for effective solar design
The building envelope: Mass, glazing, day lighting, insulation, ventilation and systems.
User control mechanisms
The incorporation of renewable fuels into building design

Good design can greatly reduce our energy problems. Use correct building orientation, appropriate amount of glass, window placement, size of roof overhang, etc, insulated homes: insulated walls, ceilings, floors and foundations, energy-efficient windows, insulated window coverings, window shades, insulated doors, insulated hot water lines, weather sealing

Energy-efficient appliances and fixtures such as compact fluorescent light bulbs, proper hot water heaters, energy-efficient heating systems, fans, including whole-house fans, air-to-air exchangers, And proper use of these things is the way of energy conservation

2.1. Alternative energy and their use

Some techniques of using alternative energy are very simple and those are well-proven solutions, most of which are totally simple to implement, but it is a fact to be really surprised because no country has been given a substantial consideration about this

2.1.1.      Solar Heating

Solar heating is a good and reliable way of providing sustainable electricity for any use. Sun is being a place where it generates power without diminutive and most of the places in the world having direct sun light which is enough to generate power by using photovoltaic panels this must be the best way of generating power.  Roofs are often angled toward the sun to allow photovoltaic panels to collect at maximum efficiency, electricity gain through the photovoltaic panels can be used for any usage, water heating is one of the major power consume procedure in the house, this solar heating can be used to water heating for zero cost therefore it will be a good practice if people can use solar heating to at least to heat water

2.1.2.      Wind Power

Wind is another kind of power generating source we can use free of charge, if the building site situated in a area where it is normally having good wind conditions we can use this system, under the sustainable architecture here it will be discussed how this is been operate cheaply, because actually if a domestic user select this system sometimes this may not cheep system to gain electricity for him, advantages and disadvantages are common to  this system  also and under any circumstances the user cant operate a system like this

This report is providing the information about what are the eligible places to operate a system like this and, it will be discussed the advantages and disadvantages

2.1.3.      Geothermal energy

This is also another way of having power specially this systems can be used to water heating, normally temperature of  in side of the earth is high, under this procedure that temperature will be collect and used

3. Sustainable Architecture and Construction

Here it will be discussed about creating a healthy built environment using resource efficient

3.1. Minimize resource consumption – conserve and reduce use of resources.

Conservation supports the principles of sustainability; it is minimize the resource consumption, resent past years it has been used materials without any conservation usually for reasons of short-term economic advantage and to day it has led to a panic situation of shortage of material in the world and some countries have to import necessary materials from other countries for constructions hence under this ground the cost of the materials is sky rocketing therefore it is need to manage the resource consumption

3.2. Maximize resource reuse – avoid and reduce waste.

Another side of sustainability is avoid and reduce wastage whenever it is possible to reuse a building it should be considered and if the building can not be reused then it should go to refurbishment, like wise as much as possible building should be maintain and used, if the refurbishment doesn’t safe and it is not eligible to reuse then only it should go to demolition, there are building elements like windows, tile, wooden material etc, which is potential for reuse therefore it should be careful to remove those elements safely before being demolished

3.3. Use local material

In any where of this world we can find natural resources that can be used for our purposes, it is need a very little processing effort to convert them into materials that we want, most commonly found resources are, rock, sand, trees, clay, limestone are some of them actually if someone need to build a house these things are enough for it, and a house which is being made with local materials, will give a good natural and interesting look, hence before going to artificial or imported material it is wise to consider about local material which is cheap economically.

3.4. Use Natural material

A building, which is being made with naturally made materials, is better to live with. as an example a floor which is being made by using wood is very comfortable compared with cement or tile floor and just because of the resilient characteristic of the wood it would not give hurt when someone fall down on it. Also choosing natural materials will reduce the pollution often associated with their manufacture process for every ton of portland cement that is manufactured, an equal amount of carbon dioxide is released into the air. And then there is the matter of health, natural materials are much less likely to adversely affect your health

3.5. Use renewable or recyclable resources.

Using renewable material or recyclable material will reduced the necessity of reproducing and also keeping them out of the landfill, not only that producing a material means not a simple process which sometimes use heavy machinery, labor, fuel etc, reusing a product means we reserve those things to future.

3.6. Protect the natural environment.

Population is increasing day by day, and increasing population means that the increasing of the need of the people, they need food, transport, buildings, etc.  Increasing these needs means that it is increasing the people’s involvement with the nature therefore we should follow a sustainable procedure to protect the natural environment.

Sustainable architecture which describe environmentally friendly design techniques and systems approach to design and construction, will be help for a sustained future, in this report it has been discussed problems which have taken a place, and related remedies that we can follow under sustainable architecture

Cruise Ship Tours – With The Lines Or On Your Own

What about touring while on a cruise vacation? Tours can be purchased from the cruise line, done on your own or you can combine the two. Booking it through the cruise lines has some advantages. Some of them are obvious.

By taking a cruise ship tour you are assured that the cruise line has thoroughly examined the places they will take you and will rate them according to their difficulty. This lets you know ahead of time if this is the right tour for you. They are always run by local tour companies and these companies want to keep that business. For this reason alone they go above and beyond to keep you happy.

With a cruise ship tour you know the equipment -buses, trains, vans and sometimes airplanes- are A-one. They will always have English speaking tour directors but they also supply tour guides that speak other languages as well. You never have to wait in line to get into museums or other attractions- a big time saver. And of course, all of the work is done for you by the tour companies and the cruise lines. And it is safe. The cruise lines would never put you in a dangerous situation or take you to a dangerous location. There are always a couple of cruise line employees on the tour to make sure no one gets lost and that the bus leaves with the same amount of people that it started with.

When going to a new or exotic port I would recommend the cruise lines excursions. Some of the most wonderful excursions we have taken were cruise line tours.

Really, for a first time visit this is the way to go. And if you choose this option when the tour guide tells you to be back at the bus at a certain time, be there. By being late you are inconveniencing all the others on the tour and jeopardizing the remaining stops that are scheduled. When you get back to the ship look all around your seat for your belongings and don’t forget the rack overhead.

On the flip side of cruise excursions, you will be traveling in buses with lots of people. It will always be more expensive than doing it on your own. You’re paying for the work that has gone into the sites visited and the expertise of the tour guide

When touring on your own make sure you have the name and number of the port agent in case of an emergency. (This is quite handy if you miss the ship). Always know what time your ship leaves. Do NOT rely on the time printed in the initial brochure that you read at home. The departure time will be printed in your daily schedule and will be posted at the gangway. Things change and sometimes ships leave earlier than previously announced.

If you miss the ship it is your responsibility to meet it at the next port. Not a situation you want to be in. If you want to visit a place on your own make sure it is open on the day you are visiting the port.

Use common sense when touring. Don’t wear lots of flashy jewelry, leave it back in your cabin locked in the safe or in the safety deposit box at the purser’s office.

Use a handbag that zippers shut and keep a firm hand on it. Rome, Italy is notorious for expert picket pockets with all kinds of ways to trick you.

Wear comfortable shoes- your days are long when touring and you will probably be doing a lot of walking. Don’t wander off on your own, stay with the group. Layered clothing in the colder climates is very sensible since you may leave at 8:00 am when it’s still cold out but by noon it has warmed up. Pack some wet ones so you can clean your hands. We always pack an apple or candy bar for a little pick-me-up in mid afternoon on long tours (our tour from Le Havre, France to Paris was twelve hours).

I pack a small purse that has a handle that you can zip to make it into a back pack or it can be worn over the shoulder and in front of you. The pack always contains Tums, any medication I am taking, an extra pair of glasses, one for sun the other for indoors, bottled water, a book for long bus rides, a small snack, a collapsible cup, wet ones and tissues. My money and credit cards go in the inside compartment completely zipped up. When touring in large groups or large cities I put it over my shoulder with it facing forward and I always have a hand securely around it. If you are at an outdoor café don’t put on the seat next to you or hang it from the back of the chair you are using, keep it on your lap. You don’t have to be paranoid just be sensible. By following these guide lines you will have an enjoyable tour experience, no matter which option you choose.

25 Things You Did Not Know You Could do in Bali

As they say, ‘one trip to Bali is never enough’. Vast, seemingly endless beaches, beautiful tropical landscapes, the fascinating culture, amazingly hospitable people and shopping for local crafts continue to attract repeat visitors to Bali, time and time again.

However, as I have been discovering in my recent trips, there is more to this tropical paradise than meets the eye.

Today you can also add to my list above, the attraction of a myriad of activities catering to both the action oriented holiday maker and the more staid.

Here is a starter list of 25 new things you may want to try when you are next in Bali:

1) Bird Park
You don’t need to be a bird watcher to enjoy this colourful park. Take a morning off, and discover the beauty of an array of tropical birds Bali has to offer. Even better, arrive later in the afternoon, and enjoy some amazing sun-set melodies. A great choice for enthusiasts and families. (located at Taman Burung – open 08:00 – 18:00 daily)

2) Cruising
Pick a boat of your choice, and head for the high seas! Nowadays Bali has a great selection of safe boats to choose from. Go for a fun filled family outing or go more adventurous with some of the latest cutting edge crafts which deliver the speed. (Bali Hai Cruises, Sea Safari Cruises, Bounty Cruises)

3) Dance Performances
Be enthralled by unique Balinese dances! Try to catch one of each of: Kecak, Legong and Fire Dances, at least. There are dozens of different troupes to choose from, each with their own following. Keep in mind, shows in hotels and tourist restaurants offer vanilla flavour, and sometimes mechanical re-creations of the real thing. Head out to some of the villages, and you will be handsomely rewarded with the authentic fare.

4) Designer Shopping
No, I am not talking about the ‘fake originals’ that litter the streets of many other Asian locations. In the recent years, Bali has attracted some of the most talented original designers, and artists from around the world (both the East and the West). This coupled with the inherent artistic capabilities of the Balinese, means that Bali today enjoys a large number of original designer shops. You can find anything from post-modern lighting installations, to Imperial Chinese style sideboards, and from original water fountain designs to some of the best jewelry designed and manufactured anywhere in the world.

5) Diving
Put your PADI license to use, or if you are a diving newbie, just do it, and get your PADI certificate in Bali! A range of dive organizers for the experienced, and dive schools for the new comers are available to choose from. Some offer PADI ‘Youth Scuba’ courses for ages 5+.

6) Dolphin Watching
Enjoy these all-time favourites in their natural habitat. They are at their best first thing in the morning. Also, the soft hues of the sun-rise provide amazing colours for the photography enthusiasts. However, you will need to plan ahead for this one, since Lovina is in the North of the island, and you will more than likely be staying in a hotel or a rental villa in the south.

7) Fishing
Go after that marlin or try your hand at yellow fin tuna! Most boats provide full tackle, bait and a running commentary, a friendly, giggly banter which makes the day out that much more enjoyable. (fishing boats from Benoa Harbour or Sanur)

8) Elephant Safari Park
Arguably, one of the best in South East Asia! Great location and landscaped gardens. Don’t forget to do the elephant safari ride.

9) Jet Skiing
Re-create those favourite Baywatch moments! Due to their environmental impact, only available at some selected beaches across the island. (available at Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua).

10) Go-Karting
Only for those who get withdrawal symptoms from being away from the hustle and bustle of big-city life! All the noise, thrills and danger of the real thing! Choice of single or double carts.

11) Golfing
A number of 18 hole courses are available across Bali. As you would expect, each more beautiful than the other. Relax on an easy course, or challenge yourself to one of the more demanding courses designed by professionals. Either way, don’t miss the spectacular views over the Indian Ocean or one of Bali’s great volcanoes. Most courses in Bali are to international standards, and many offer clubhouses and recreational facilities for the rest of the family.

12) Helicopter Tours
Go on, splash out for that once in a life-time experience! Spectacular views over Bali even Lombok. Take in the gentle rice terraces from the best vantage point, or get up close and personal with a volcano! Not cheap, but certainly an experience never to forget. (Air Bali)

13) Horse Riding
Enjoy one of the equestrian centres at your doorstep! Selection of horses, with courses for the beginners. Wonderful escorted tours through the rice terraces and tide permitting down the beach. (Umalas or Saba Bay Stables)

14) Kite Boarding
Some great wind and lift, as well as the equipment for rental is available at Nusa Dua beaches. But make sure you have a great story lined up for your insurance company! Keep in mind, this really is an Extreme Sport.

15) Monkey Watching
Experience mischievous macaques in full action! Also, some good restaurants and eateries nearby. However, be careful of your cameras, glasses and the like! (The Sacred Monkey Forest – Ubud)

16) Mountain Cycling
If you like cycling, why not enjoy a leisurely cycle with views of the Batur volcano! Lots to see, lots to learn, all on two wheels with an experienced guide. (Bali Adventure Tours)

17) Paragliding
Throw yourself off the sheer cliff faces of Uluwatu into the Indian Ocean! As a beginner you can enjoy great tandem jumps with well qualified professionals with great safety records.

18) Slingshot (Reverse Bungee)
Defy gravity Bali style, with some spectacular 50m views! (That is, if you remember to open your eyes!) Not for the faint-hearted. Organisers follow international safety standards.

19) Surfing
If you’ve come with your board you’ll know where to go! If you are keen to learn, there are many schools to choose from, just head for the beach! Whilst Kuta is a good all rounder, Uluwatu, Padang-Padang, and Balangan can provide some great tubes to test the more experienced. (some offer surfing lessons for ages 5+, so the whole family can enjoy surfing all together)

20) Temple Ceremonies
Few visitors to Bali realise that in most instances you will be welcomed to attend local ceremonies as an observer. The great thing is, there is a temple ceremony every single day of the year in Bali, just ask around to find the nearest one during your stay. If you are lucky enough, you may be able to catch one of the Full Moon or Dark Moon ceremonies which attract devotees from far a field and are some of the most colourful events on the island. Please remember that a sensible dress code, and polite/respectful behaviour are essential for continued hospitality towards foreign guests. (Also, please note that women are not allowed in the temples during their menstrual period.)

21) Tennis
Choose from one of many open or some covered courts! Whilst most better tennis courts are located at major hotels, you can use these facilities on a pay-per-use basis. Many will provide a partner to match your skills.

22) Wake Boarding (or Knee Boarding)
Have a go at that double flip, or just learn to stand up! Whilst most beaches are more suitable for surfing, you can enjoy wakeboarding at the Condrad Bali Resort, and surrounds.

23) Waterbom Park
Water slides and rides galore, both kids and adults will have a blast! World class park, with well trained staff. Go early to make the most of your day! (open 09:00 – 18:00 daily)

24) Wind Surfing
Maximise the almost continuous winds found in Nusa Dua or Sanur. You can rent a board, and head out, or take one of the courses designed for beginners.

25) White Water Rafting
A thrilling experience through 8 kilometers of rapids! (believe it or not, still suitable for ages 5+) Organisers follow international safety standards. (Bali Adventure Tours)

Like me, if you manage to fit in five of these activities into your schedule, every time you visit Bali, you will still want to come back for more. Because, at the end of the day, it is the people of Bali, with their welcoming smiles, and willingness to help, which will make mere adventures into even more precious memories.

One final thought. If you are attempting something new, or slightly dangerous, please make sure to check that you are fit/suitable enough for the adventure ahead, and that the organisers have the necessary experience/safety record so as not to spoil your wonderful Bali adventure.

Many happy returns to the Island of the Gods!

Transforming The Economy Begins At Home

I no longer live in a world with a collapsing economy. I am creating a new one.

This Christmas our family decided to give non-material gifts to the adults in our family.

The week before the big day, I sat down at my computer and wrote letters to everyone in my family.

I have a big family and by the time I was done, I had worked fourteen hours crafting the words that would truly express why I love the people I love, who they are for me and why I find them special.

When I was done, I found a new and unexpected peace. This struck me as strange at first because I am a man who acknowledges those he loves. After some thought, I realized I had never spent that much time thinking about the people I care about in my entire life. I saw my newfound peace had always been available to me. My obsession with my “agenda” in life had merely obscured it.

I had enrolled my family in a “new kind of gift giving” in advance. When we gathered to celebrate it was like no Christmas in our past. My family is a large, intimate and loving group. We have had many wonderful times together in the past, but by removing ourselves from commercial culture and expressing our love directly instead of by purchasing (let’s be honest) unwanted gifts, we discovered a new and profound intimacy.

The experience changed me and helped me create a new conversation I had been crafting, a conversation designed to be shared.

The Myth of the Collapsing Global Economy:

Falling down is not always a bad thing. Waterfalls do it with abandon and are one of the most beautiful phenomena on earth.

Like almost everyone on the planet, I wasted a lot of energy in the Fall of 2008 locked in fear about the financial markets and how their collapse would impact me, my family, my businesses and my life. Every day the news reports seemed to add to my internal experience of failure and helplessness.

But I found a way out of that morass. I realized in early December that the “collapsing global economy” is just a story; a repetitive, debilitating conversation that lives in fear and insufficiency. It is a “created reality” like all other realities.

I am not saying it is a myth without power. That disturbing drama has its impact on the real world. Self-destructive conversations have consequences not only for individuals, but also for nations and economic systems. People are hurting and afraid.

But though it effects are real, the sad and pitiable tale we are telling about the global economy is also a self-fulfilling prophesy. At its core is a commonly held bad attitude, an anxiety-addicted belief in scarcity.

At our house, our finances are stretched. We have had to give up things we care about…but really, we are just fine. We are healthy. Our children and grandchildren are well and happy. We are not starving. The sun rises every morning. Most of us in this country have what I often refer to as “rich people’s problems.”

Billions of people in the world – and some here in the U. S. – really live on the edge of survival. They would laugh at our self-pity. They face much worse every day and have dealt with it their entire lives.

So I am no longer going to play that game. On Christmas day I made my stand. I will no longer meekly engage in that economic melodrama like a sheep being led to slaughter. I choose not to live like I am powerless. Living in fear, buying the spin so eagerly promoted by Fox and CNN is not putting money in my pocket, supporting my family, making me more effective or enhancing my life in any way.

To the contrary, it has exactly the opposite effect.

A New Conversation:

In 2009 I am creating a conversation that is more powerful, more fulfilling and more workable. I am creating hope and abundance. I am creating a world in which anything is possible, a world in which people all over this planet make the impossible possible every day. I am creating a life for me and my family in the new paradigm I see building all around me.

You may think I am a pie in the sky idealist, but I argue I am a pragmatist. Think about it. How is that negative story working for you? How do you feel when you wake up in the morning? How do you feel after you finish watching the news? Is something good happening in your life because you are sure things are bad? I doubt it. Why don’t you give a new story a try?

The tale I am telling is that the changes going on in our world are the collapse of a tired old way of being and the genesis of a new one that will transform our lives for the better. I am creating a conversation about a new “bottom up” economy in which all are included, one already being built all over the planet by the young and the visionary.

I am creating a system of exchange and value that recognizes our interdependence and endlessly innovative. I am building an economy of infinite possibility, of sufficiency and abundance…an economy that works for everyone.

The conversation I am having is that the old is falling away and the new is born. Winter must come before the flowers of Spring can bloom. I am telling the story of a butterfly emerging from it chrysalis, its wings unfolding…a story of the glory of flight.

The tale I am creating is not one of soft-hearted idealism. It lives in the material, in the brains and words of human beings. It is a story of hard science, corporate and political realities, a pragmatic evolution forged in technology and human cultural evolution that has been growing for many years. It is a new interpretation of reality that is available to everyone all the time. Real people can act on it in their lives at any moment. It is a conversation that makes things work where they do not, like all new technologies that have value.

We are going home, home to our better selves, home to new relationships, new systems of behavior, new technologies and new societal and economic structures. Given the state of the world we have had in the past, that is a good thing.

But before we can move forward, we have to see the debilitating conversation that prevails around us for what it is. We must turn negativity into possibility. We must make our stands for a world that works and act upon them. We must quiet the cruel wind of fear that fills the tattered sails of the sinking ship of excess, failure, scarcity, corruption, partisanship, self-interest and greed that has plagued our country and our world.

Sounds too big and too hard? It’s not. All we have to do is change the subject. All we have to do is notice the “glass half full” rather than the “glass half empty” and share what we see with those we meet. After all, positive interpretations are no less real than negative ones. There is ample evidence for both and I would assert that positivism is more practical and effective.

You Create Your Own Reality

Perhaps you are convinced the world really is going to Hell in a handbasket and there is nothing you can do about it. Well think about this.

Throughout you life, neurons and other nerve tissues in your brain grow in response to your environment. The process is called neurogenesis. New synapses and whole new neurons are actually being added into the circuitry of your brain in response to the world around you. Metaphorically, they grow a lot like muscle tissue. If you use your muscles, they grow and get stronger. If you sit on the couch all day and watch TV, they atrophy.

Something (roughly) similar happens in your brain. Everything you think, feel and experience is a result how your brain responds to your experience and grows new neural tissues and connections to other neurons.

The more often a particular neural pathway is reinforced by environmental cues, the stronger it gets and the more embedded in your memory. So the behavior, attitudes and values with which you approach life – and the nature of your relationships with others – are built into your nervous system. They are not just ideas or attitudes. They are aspects of your physiology.

How you see the world and how the world sees you is built into your brain. But because your brain is constantly changing and growing, over time you can change that hard wiring simply by altering your thoughts, actions or your environment. Attitudes and values are not casual things. They are physical and the source of your everyday experience of life.

That means your words have power. Speaking is an act of creation. Over time, the way you describe the world creates your world. If you want a “better world,” all you have to do is “cast your vote” each day for the world that is already working.

Ever notice who is always around when your life doesn’t work? You are. You can blame it on your circumstances if you want to, but all that does is make it persist. You can blame others, but all that does is make you suffer. Maybe you should consider an alternative.

I invite you to join me in a new conversation. We can create it together in the days and months to come…and before you know it, a new and vibrant economy will emerge.

Transformation Begins at Home

To transform the global economy we must begin by transforming our personal economies. After all, most things that are important begin at home.

That includes the current economic crisis, which began in a cascade of foreclosures and falling real estate values.

In the body of our built environment, the home is like a single cell. If you think of all the buildings, power grids, public works and transportation systems on our planet, all the things we have built in order to maintain our complex societies, our homes are the most basic unit in the “body” of human society.

Like a cell membrane, a home allows nutrients into our vulnerable inner worlds and keeps toxins – like nosy neighbors – out. Like a cell, our homes contain thermostats and other features that maintain homeostasis, protecting us from the slings and arrows of outrageous weather.
Our homes store our financial energy like the fat on our bodies. For most of us, our homes are our largest investments. Recently we have been forced to “go on a diet” and some of us lost our assets.

Homes are where we most often reproduce and subsequently nurture our young. They are powerful expressions of our identities – as Claire Cooper Marcus pointed out in House as a Mirror of the Self. A well appointed home is an extension of our bodies. It is, as physiologist J. Scott Turner suggests in The Extended Organism, an “external organ of physiology.”

Imagine for a moment if the built infrastructure that supports our societies suddenly disappeared. The result would be the same for us as it would be for a colony of termites or a nest of bees…a sudden and devastating die off.

Theorists have long argued about the traits that have made Homo Sapiens so successful. The use of tools, opposable thumbs, the evolution of language and the highly complex social structures we create have all had their day as the seminal first cause…but the most visible evidence of mankind’s assent to dominance is our built environment.
From caves to mud huts to castles and skyscrapers, the homes we have built and the public works we have erected to sustain them, are the proof of the efficacy of this survival mechanism.

We and our homes are engaged in an ancient and profoundly interdependent relationship. Like any other animal we evolve in response to our environment, and increasingly our environment is of our own making.

Natural selection and epigenetic gene expression occur primarily in response to our most highly frequented environments and the home is the most intimate environment of man. We build them and they build us back. We are enmeshed in and altered by our relationships with them.

Your own personal definition of home – whether your current habitation meets your ideal or not – likely includes emotional ingredients like comfort, safety, rejuvenation, peace, relaxation and the privacy to escape from the perceived expectations of others.
Despite all the mischief perpetrated by stock traders, hedge funds managers, sub-prime lenders and incompetent government regulators – the stars of the story of manipulation and greed that currently batters us daily – the truth is that those bad actors are mere symptoms of the greed and self indulgence within all of us.

In truth, you and I are the building blocks of the global economy.

The Economy is an “Emergent” Phenomenon

Like our societies, the global economy is a complex system that adapts to its environment. All such systems of relationship are made up of what systems scientists call “agents.”

Just as water molecules are the main ingredient of oceans – and homes are the most basic form in our built environment – individuals and families are the most basic ingredients of our economic and political systems.

Corporations, countries and financial markets are all made of people. What we have just seen in the global economy is an emotional and psychological “tidal wave” of anxiety.

A tidal wave is an “emergent property” of a group of water molecules. It occurs when a “society” of such molecules responds to a disruption in its environment. The same is true for a hurricane or a tornado. There is nothing in a tidal wave except sea water. It has no distinct material ingredients of its own and could not exist unless every single salt water molecule within it contained the properties that allow a massive wave to form.

The same is true about the relationship between human beings and the global economy

In a world such as I describe, the successes and failures of an economy, a country or a culture emerge from the characteristics of the individuals within it. Particularly in a democratic society, leaders arise from the shared realities of the people.

Working Together Responsibly

So only you and I have the power to transform our economy. Barack Obama cannot fix the problem. All of us – consumers, bankers, stockholders, the wealthy, the middle class, the poor, our international partners, academics and economists, hedge fund managers, members of Congress, the teen working at the fast food franchise and the guy on the automobile assembly line approaching retirement – will all have to work together.

It is up to us. Every individual, each family, each small business, each multi-national corporation and each government is an economy unto itself. If we are going to learn anything from this troubling experience, it is that each of us must take responsibility for our own relationship with money. We must face this reality because it is the only truly workable long term solution to our troubles. It is also moral and upright.

The media parrot and stoke our anxiety because that is what makes financial sense in a world where information is tied to profit. So we have to change the conversation ourselves. These facts mean we must give up the “one size fits all” stereotypes we use to fix blame without ignoring the realities of human nature.

We are profoundly social and collaborate with one another instinctively. Human beings are also deeply emotional. We look to those around us to assess how we should react to the world. If our neighbors are afraid, fear spreads like a virus. The same is true of optimism and courage.

People must first see the possibility of a positive change before they can strive towards it. To accomplish that in government, we must learn to distinguish the good public servant from the bad. If we want responsible corporate behavior we must reward those corporations who are responsible and give back and distinguish them in our conversations from those who are exploitative and predatory. If we want our President to be successful, we must be balance our demands for change with some sense of our own responsibility in the matter.

We must face the realities of a global economic system and understand the interdependence inherent in our global economy. “Foreigners” are not stealing our wealth. The Chinese, Indians, Mexicans, Taiwanese and Brazilians aren’t stealing our jobs. The global economy is the result of our efforts in the developed world, often imposed against the wishes of the citizens or even the leaders of those nations.

We in the West are hoist on our own petard. The impersonal realities of the marketplace are redistributing our wealth to those who compete most effectively. This occurs in the capitalistic system of value we in the West created.

We – the rich and powerful – fuel that redistribution with our endless desire for more toys, more experiences, more consumption and more status. The desperate cry of the old order – “spend, spend and spend” – is the pusher trying to entice the addict. We need to go “cold turkey” and re-examine our personal and cultural values.

And there is no turning back. This trial we face is not temporary. It is the new reality. Turning our southern border into an Iron Curtain won’t save us. Isolation and protectionism are just ways to hide under our beds and ultimately impossible to achieve in an age of open borders, international trade and monetary systems and the Internet.

Tamping down rampant consumerism does not mean our economy cannot be vibrant and diverse. It only means that we must balance our needs for profit with a vision for an economy that works for all classes, all peoples and our planet as a whole.

Changing the Conversation

Again, all we have to do is change the conversation….and the rest will follow. The only real difference we can make is in our own lives and is expressed one person at a time, one family at a time. Cooperation enables us to collectively transform our systems of value. We must work together because such actions are the only solutions that will protect our descendants and the only true road to peace. We live on a planet with fixed resources but unlimited possibilities and the only workable path forward is to begin creating a world that works for everyone.

You may not care whether the “poor people” in the developing world eat or not, but you do care about the survival of your own children.

You may not like it that human society has reached the point that your survival is dependent on the survival of the impoverished masses of Africa, Asia and South America, but it is. You may pine for the good old days when we could prop up our lifestyles on the back of the “third world” but now the “third world” holds our bank notes.

That time is gone. You may not care about the state of the global environment; or that terrorism, extremist ideologies, pollution, global warming and the cascading extinction of species in stressed ecosystems around the planet are inextricably linked to economic inequalities.

But you will care when the first nuclear weapon goes off in a major western city, or the first deadly virus is released in your neighborhood by a disaffected extremist.

This is not just an economic downturn. It is a global economy in the process of transformation. We stand on the threshold of a new world order. This change will either be the beginning of a new and fairer global economic and political order; or we will see more violence, privation, destruction of the environment, all ultimately leading to the slow death of Western culture as we know it.

An analysis of user patterns on the Internet makes it clear what is to come. In developed countries, over 70% of the population is currently connected to the Internet, yet they account for only about 18% of all people online. In the rest of the world, less than 17% of the population is connected and that is changing at a rate in excess of 300% per year.

You do the numbers. We in the West cannot live in our “own little worlds” any longer. Oceans and massive weapons systems cannot protect us. Small bands of extremists have fought the most powerful military on earth to a draw. The long feared day has arrived and we only have two choices. The first and best is to take the lead in creating a world that works for all. The darker path is to withdraw into fortresses of isolationism and self interest, a choice that means our children and grandchildren will inherit a world much less hopeful than the one we knew as children.

I choose the former. My family too has been hurt by this economic downturn. We have had to give up many things we care about in the face of it. But those are just things. We are all still eating, laughing and loving one another. Many on this planet do not have that opportunity. I choose to take this experience as an profound opportunity, a necessary and beneficial adjustment to a changing world that offers new found hope and opportunity for everyone.

What will you do? Will you let fear guide you? Will you make a stand for what is right according to every moral and religious tradition on earth? Will you choose what is workable, pragmatic and honest – or will you choose to hide your head in the sand?

Will you stand with the dying husk of a world built on illusion, hollow consumption and self-interest or will you stand for our children?

One way or another, what happens in your life and our world is up to you.

It may seem impossible to make any real difference. It may seem too overwhelming to even contemplate, but truthfully you do not have to know what to do or how to do it to make a powerful commitment.

All you have to do is pick yourself up, realize you have the power to control your words…and change the conversation.

Wonderful, Magickal, Mustika-pearls Part 2

Some of the characteristics and virtues of mustika-pearls are intensely curious and interesting. Below we present just a few of these :

The pearl from the dugong (called “Ikan-duyung” in Indonesian) for instance, floats in salt water, but sinks in fresh water; this and the crystallized pearl from its tear are good for love-spells. The otter-pearl attracts lots of fishes during fishing trips; the fossilized egg of a crocodile increases one’s sexual prowess; the dew-pearl beautifies one’s aura–the smaller sizes of these pearls when moisten with one’s finger, coheres to it as it is dragged across a smooth surface; the golden carp and bamboo (symbols of wealth, business advantage, and longevity in Chinese lore) -pearls attracts lots of luck and increases prosperity; the centipede pearl helps one to choose the right numbers during gambling; the owl-pearl helps to improve one’s psychic senses; the Galih Kelor seed-pearl wards-off negative energies in the form of black magick and psychic attack; the boar-pearl makes one invulnerable to sharp weapons. Almost all of the pearls have unusual powers and virtues. If one finds an object embedded in a pearl it usually has extra virtues. Generally speaking, the higher nature, power, abilities, virtues of animals/plants are to be found in the pearls. Mustika-pearls, unlike ordinary gem stones and crystals, possesses the combined spiritual blueprints, matrixes and forces of the spirit-animal-mineral or the spirit-plant-mineral kingdoms.

Most mustika-pearl enthusiasts are amazed at the size and diversity of the pearls. Take for instance the centipede pearl, these sometimes measures 1 cm or more in diameter. The size itself could cause some skeptism as we normally think of centipedes as small creatures; yet, in the jungles of Sumatra they may grow to be as long as a meter in length! The quality and type of centipede pearls differ depending on which region they come from. A centipede may also produce four sorts of pearls–one on its head, this is called the “crown.” Another may be found in its stomach; smaller types are to be found among its whiskers, and the most valuable and scarce of them all, the pearl to be found in its mouth–this one is said to glow in the dark and gives one the power of etheric vision.

Most mustika-pearls are of a crystalline nature, and are closely related to the etheric world, perhaps much more than any of the common substances that we normally come across in our daily lives. Each pearl carries the vibrational essence of the Spirit Intelligence in charge of the evolution of the consciousness and form of the animal/plant species allocated to it. Unlike consuming animal meat and substances, close and regular contact with animal and plant pearls have a healing effect upon our body and psyche and raises our energy-frequency, aiding us to transit into a higher consciousness-level, awakening our spiritual senses. Most owners of magickal pearls only look to their physical effect–the true value of a mustika lies in what it can do for one’s spiritual evolution.

In alchemy, the practitioner would seek ways to transmute base metals into gold and to acquire the philosopher’s stone, and the stone of various substances. Nature, the great alchemist, produces animal and plant stones in her laboratory under the appropriate conditions known at present only to Her; we are blessed that these stones are available for healing some of the psychological and physical ills that we constantly suffer.

Mustikas are Nature’s products and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes as alluded to before. Mustikas of the same animal or plant-life may differ in form, color, size, etc. The shape is sometimes given by the lapidary, though normally the original outline is closely followed in the tumbling and polishing process. The point is that the genuineness of a mustika cannot be judged by its appearance alone–but by occult detection. Nevertheless, mustikas do possess high vibrational qualities that most low-caliber psychics toxicated with egoic-debris are unable to detect. Not sensing these they may pronounce a magickal pearl to be a fake.

Mustikas in their original state have a rough texture and requires tumbling and polishing to bring out their true beauty. Lapidaries are often surprised with these mustikas. One fellow commented the strangeness of these pearls–normally, tumbling and polishing ten ordinary stones gives him no aching problem. But just polishing one of these mustikas makes his arm ache all over–and yet, they are probably no harder than the average agate stone–some are even brittle. Not knowing the origin of these pearls, he then suggested that they must be enchanted. Indeed! A further shock was when he discovered that one of them changed color when it was immersed in water. This is quite interesting as most magickal pearls do have unusual physical characteristics.

Choosing a mustika for one’s personal use may require careful thought. It should be noted that the consciousness of God pervades all of Nature, and in each creature we have the dynamic Divine Intelligence expressing in a certain way with certain virtues. Thus, the spiritual attribute that we wish to develop may be a factor in one’s choice of an animal or a plant mustika-pearl. Studying Nature–animal psychology, behavioral-patterns and instincts or the Doctrine of Signatures of the plant kingdom and the symbolism of both would be a rewarding venture for those intending to acquire mustika-pearls for personal use.

If one has no actual purpose in mind or preference, one should choose a pearl that coincides closely with one’s Totem-animal or the animal that harmonizes well with one’s Chinese zodiacal sign.

One’s Totem-animal may be known by careful introspection; by sensing a special affinity with an animal or feeling the animal that one resonates well with. Totem animals may also be known through constant dreams of the animal; through meditation/intuition; by one’s childhood obsession or longing for the animal as a pet; of the psychological identification with the animal itself or by the animal that one is most attracted to or fears most; by constant pictorial or concrete imagery forms of the animal arising in some manner, etc. If one often dream of tigers, and as a child found joy in fantasizing about the animal, this may indicate that the creature is one’s Totem-animal. Sometimes the knowledge of one’s Power or Totem animal is acquired during a crisis–during a physical encounter with the animal, for instance; or during unusual circumstances the knowledge is brought to the awareness. Knowledge of one’s Totem animal may be acquired through a “VisionQuest.” In Native American-Indian society this VisionQuest is mandatory as part of the rite of passage presented to the young. This quest entails fasting and seclusion in nakedness in a sweatlodge where a vision of a Totem-animal is unexpectedly presented by the Great Spirit to the consciousness of the child undergoing it. Tokens of the animal may be discovered subsequent to the vision in the surrounding area. This quest may be undergone by anyone willing to acquire the vision after due preparation.

The Totem animals are the projection of the elements of one’s inner consciousness representing the area or quality in one’s spirituality that requires balancing, harmonizing, or developing. Carrying a mustika-pearl of the animal in question serves as an aid in attuning with the Spirit-Guardian/Intelligences of the animal and helping us to administer to our soul-need and harmonize the imbalances in the psyche. It also helps to transfer the great wisdom or skill that each animal possess to our inner being.

Choosing a mustika-pearl based on one’s Chinese sign is also a good method for determining what pearl would be best for one. Naturally this method and the one above does not apply to plant-pearls. These latter can be worn by anyone with great benefit.

The Chinese Zodiacal signs are grouped into four :

Chinese Zodiacal Animals

Pig Rabbit Goat

Rat Monkey Dragon

Cow Chicken Snake

Tiger Dog Horse

If you happen to be a Goat, one suitable pearl would be the Pig (Wild Boar) or Rabbit. If you are a Rat, the pearl that would best complement you is the Monkey-pearl or the Dragon- (dragon-snake) pearl. Substitutes may be used if a pearl from the exact creature is unavailable. For instance, the pig-pearl may be substituted by the wild-boar pearl; the ape or gorilla for the monkey; the dragon-snake for the dragon; the wild-dog or wolf for the dog.

One might also choose a mustika-pearl on the basis of its color as related to a chakra. A pearl with the associated color of a chakra vibrationally enhances the chakra and its psychological expression while aiding in removing any pathological elements related to it.

Another possible alternative of choosing a magickal pearl is the element-color method. Whatever element one lacks in his astrological nature may be complemented with a mustika of the appropriate color. If a person has an abundance of water in his psychological make-up, he may choose a color other than blue, as blue represents water. Following are the colors and the elements as given by one system of correspondence :

Red–Fire, Blue–Water, Green–Earth, Yellow–Air.

Mustika pearls of plants and animals may be chosen for their value in occult workings and rites. Every mustika-pearl has its mystical virtues that may be tapped and appropriated for the purposes of the Magickal Operator. The occult practitioner would study the attributes of the animal or plant in order to know which is especially required for certain magickal operations.

If one has absolutely no idea what mustika-pearl would be best for one’s general well-being, health, spiritual development, and prosperity, one could submit the question to a shaman who is attuned to the Intelligences of Nature. The shaman would choose that which is appropriate for one’s present evolutionary development, keeping in mind the subject’s well-being in both spiritual and mundane matters. It is also possible to acquire the necessary information from one’s Higher Self, one’s Inner Guide.

Once having obtained a mustika, one might wonder what can be done with it or how to harness the power that it possesses. Whatever virtues a mustika possesses would be transferred to us by simply carrying or wearing it for some time. The effects of the mustika may be perceived after several weeks or so depending on the virtue sought. Greater powers such as invulnerability against sharp weapons as that given by the wild boar pearl may take a greater period of constant proximity with the pearl before it may show some effects. The time factor may be quickened by following certain disciplines such as constant attunement-sessions with the elemental spirit/pearl and drinking/showering with the water or elixir of the pearl. These elixirs or enchanted water/oil carry no physical properties of the pearls, but they do carry the vibrational quality and essences of the spiritual aspect of the animals or plants from which they have been derived.

Steeping pearls in a glass of water for half an hour empowers the water with its energies. Steeping it for several hours under sun or moonlight would imbue the water with a greater amount of the pearl’s vibratory energies and essences; abundant life-force of a plant/animal mustika-pearl are channeled into the water. The spiritual blue-print in the pearl containing information of the animal/plant are also infused into the water. This is a supplemental nutrient for the various psychic components within man. Whatever force is embued in the water by the steeping process is transferred to one’s physical and subtle bodies impelling them to resonate at higher frequencies where diseases of mind, body, and soul are non-existent and cannot exist. The enchanted pearl-water has a deep impact upon the nervous and blood-system.

Generally, plant pearls affect more of the physical and etheric bodies while animal pearls the astral and spiritual side of man.

Drinking mustika-pearl water assists in one’s reintegration with the Cosmic Intelligence; this cannot help but improve one’s sense of oneness and harmony with all of Nature. This has a tremendous psychological import in one’s approach to life, transmuting negativity into positivity. Mixing the pearl-waters of various mustikas is permissible. Once having studied the powers, virtues and healing properties of each pearl, a blend may be made of the waters to achieve a specific result. Constant attunements with the pearls helps to intuitively know their powers.

Mustika-pearl water should be made in a tranquil environment. When drunk, the water acts as a tonic effect to the body, healing physical ailments, psychological problems, balancing the chakral energies, and promoting spiritual awareness and growth. Pearl-elixirs using an alcohol-base may also be made. Nowadays, in the New-Age market, gem, crystal, and flower elixirs may be easily acquired. There is no company as yet, however, producing mustika elixirs. When properly made, these mustika-elixirs would possess more power and have a greater effect than the ordinary ones produced from gem stones and crystals.

That mustika-pearl water possesses healing virtues, many people including ourselves have personally determined to be true. It would be superfluous and unnecessary to relate case histories; one would have to experience this for oneself.

Aside from its consumption, mustika-pearl elixirs and water–and even oil–may also be anointed or massaged into the body. The pearl-fluid may be applied to the various points or chakral vortices along the main and secondary channels of the subtle body where the energy-flow is blocked . Its application helps to break up the psychic toxins embedded in the channels.

Pearl water, elixir or oil may also be placed in a room and left alone for its evaporation. The vibratory essence of the pearl would transmute negative energies in the surrounding area and harmonize the psychological condition of the people moving and living within its influential reach.

Some practitioners believe that the consumption of pearl-water is insufficient to tap the power of a pearl, that a password is required to command the indwelling spirit. There is some truth in this but the password is just a gimmick created by occult practitioners hoping to excite the interest of pearl-owners and increase their clientele. What is actually required is a simple psychic-attunement with the elemental spirit–by calling its name (if known), absorbing its energies by holding the pearl, and explaining to it the purpose of steeping the pearl in a glass of water. This communication with the pearl-intelligence may be formulated into an affirmation or decree–they should be specific so that the elemental-intelligence knows the healing or work that is to be conducted.

Mustika-pearls should be handled with great care as some of them are fragile. They should also be anointed often with aromatic oil such as sandalwood or “zafarron.” When not in used they should be stored in a proper case with some flowers in it. Spirit elementals delight in the aroma of flower essences–the anointment and the placing of flowers are gestures of appreciation for their aid.
